Plymouth Survey Results October 2004 Appendix
Not my personal experience, opinion based on media reports
Off campus housing consumes too much of the downtown area.
Off campus housing is extending too far into neighborhoods & creating noise & congestion
problems.
Off campus living should be abolished. They do not respect our town.
Out of control students in residential homes/areas
Some neighborhoods have been ruined by the boards allowing so many students to live there
Plymouth has turned into a party town.
Noise, parking, parties & garbage all over the streets
Property taxes are too high. The college should pay their share. They own now almost all the
houses in towns.
PSU should be forced into a no-growth policy.
PSU sprawl (student housing) must be contained. Student housing makes the Town look
trashy/rundown.
Regulate student housing before it gets out of hand (take note of what's happening in Durham)
Related to off campus housing
Should be regulated in terms of upkeep & where it can go.
Should the college enroll more students than it can house? The town suffers from this practice &
neighborhoods deteriorate rapidly.
Pleasant Street coming towards Broadway is looking "slum like" Zoning & parking limits should be
put in place.
2d9. Other Comments (40 written comments):
Fraternities & sororities encourage drinking & bad behavior/vandalism/noise
No business for people to work & make salary.
Need more variety of restaurants instead of pizza, Chinese & fast food.
Need more variety - A Lowe's home improvement store would be nice.
Loss of property taxes
Limited opportunities for employment. Many of the jobs that are available do not pay well.
Lack of college willingness to work with town College president should be in town & driven around
on "big" weekends.
