Plymouth Survey Results October 2004 Appendix
10c.
Do you perceive there is an excessive demand on town services and
facilities in Plymouth by entities exempt from paying property taxes?
10d.
If yes, give examples: 156 examples offered
#1 problem of all time. PSU "The Bloodsucker" Refuse to have their kids in Ply. Schools @ no cost!
Don't allow it!! Just say no, please have guts! Nonprofit "elderly facilities" have high medical
response needs-Thanks Taylor Home-Welcome to Rich Plymouth
PSU - need I say more!!! Same for "non profit" organizations! Churches & religious organizations
excessive!
1. PSU 2. Tax exempt regional service centers
1. The University - the state (not the school) should be "taxed." 2. Churches - If "charity begins at
home," then the town is charity (Pray and pay.)
12 churches, housing for Tri-Cap
1st PSU - Hospital & non-profit organization. It's one thing if you ARE non-profit but let's get real!
All churches should be required to pay for infrastructure in some way. If you can squeeze some out
of churches as money from PSU is really from me.
At times, the college kids obviously drain the town's services.
But let's get over it and work on what we can.
Churches
Churches & University
Churches, nonprofit organizations, college properties
Churches, PSU, county and/or regional facilities
Churches, university, senior citizens, etc. tax police, fire, roads
College
College churches
College & churches
College community & services of PD - if campus police were 100% responsible for all of the
university's policing needs, we would be ok; however due to off campus housing & college activities
within the community at large (see below for rest of comments)
College demands on fire & police services
College housing if their not paying & churches. If college does pay their share, why are taxes so
high?
College is a HUGE drain on the taxpayer. They should be made to pay a more equitable &
proportional share of the burden they place on us. Also, their students in our school system should
be more closely monitored for tuition.
College not giving enough for land & buildings they have taken. Hospital creates more work for
ambulance. Whole village has created a culture that has expanded in Plymouth from the previous
welfare group. Certain exempt groups create more demand than other
College should pay for all its buildings except classrooms
College w/ fire, police Churches - how many are there in Plymouth? They cost us tax dollars.
College, churches & social services
College, hospital, nonproperty tax entities surrounding towns & their residents who use our
services with little cost to themselves, i.e. EMS, police & fire.
College's lack of accountability for their fair share of services such as fire & police protection. The
fact that we cannot tax dining rooms, bedrooms & kitchens which are exempt for PSU but not for
private colleges & universities is unfair.
Culturally, the college is a good thing, but it has taken over too much taxable property & expanded
way too far without equitable payback for years.
